The Happy Tartan Girls in Inveraray 🏰⛰️✨
Nestled on the shores of Loch Fyne, Inveraray is a jewel of Argyll — complete with a fairytale castle, Georgian streets, a famous jail, and a tower on the hill that rewards climbers with breathtaking views. The Happy Tartan Girls were ready to explore it all.
Arrival in Inveraray
The girls crossed the iconic stone arch bridge into town, greeted by the sight of Inveraray Castle’s green turrets rising against the hills. “It looks like something out of a storybook!” Iona gasped, sketchbook in hand.
Bonnie twirled dramatically in front of the castle gates: “Let’s dazzle ‘em with castle glamour!”
Inveraray Castle
Inside the castle, the girls explored grand halls filled with portraits, glittering chandeliers, and displays of weapons. Blaire carefully traced their route on her map: “Right, here’s the plan — the armoury first, then the gardens.”
Alba shared tales of the Dukes of Argyll and the Campbell clan: “This one’s got a story of power, pride, and the Highlands at their heart.”
Outside, the gardens burst with colour — the perfect spot for a tartan twirl photo shoot.
The Watchtower Walk
Next came the long hike up to the Inveraray Watchtower. Skye was first to dash up the trail: “Race you to the top!” she called, sprinting ahead with her usual energy.
At the summit, the view stretched across Loch Fyne, the town’s white buildings gleaming below. Blane, calm and steady, smiled as the breeze tugged at her tartan: “I’ve got it — the Highlands in one view.”
Inveraray Jail
Back in town, the girls explored the historic Inveraray Jail, with its dark cells and spooky atmosphere. Bonnie, naturally, played the part of a dramatic prisoner: “Save me, sisters!” she wailed, making everyone laugh.
Iona sketched the old stone walls, while Alba explained: “This one’s got a story of justice — harsh, but part of Scotland’s past.”
A Lochside Feast
For lunch, the girls tucked into Loch Fyne oysters, smoked salmon, and bowls of creamy Cullen Skink. Dessert was sticky clootie dumpling, shared happily at a lochside café. Bonnie, of course, staged her usual faint after the first bite.
Memories in Stone & Sky
Photos filled their scrapbook — tartans twirling in the castle gardens, windswept grins at the watchtower, and cheeky poses behind the bars at Inveraray Jail.
Where Next?
With Inveraray complete, the Happy Tartan Girls had uncovered both the grandeur and grit of Argyll. But will their next stop be another castle town — or the final leap to carry their tartans beyond Scotland’s borders into the wider world? 🌍✨
