✨ The Start of the Tartan Adventure

Happy Tartan® began with a simple idea — to create more than just tartan.

While developing another brand, The Highland Dancer®, there was a need for a tartan of its own. That curiosity led to learning how tartans work — how line, colour and rhythm come together to tell a story.

One day, sitting on the beach on the Isle of Bute, it finally clicked.

A sketchbook, a long night, and the first design came to life: Bute Sky Tartan.

It wasn’t traditional in the strict sense — it was tartan-inspired — but it felt right. From there, the Sky Collection was born. Each design named after an island. Each one woven with meaning.

But something unexpected happened.

The tartans didn’t just feel like designs —
they felt like the beginning of a world.

And that’s when the Happy Tartan Girls arrived.

What started as colours and patterns quickly became personalities, stories and friendships.

Hours were spent shaping the girls — how they looked, how they felt, how they moved through their world. Their voices, their energy, their adventures — all slowly coming to life.

They weren’t just characters.
