The Happy Tartan Girls in Oban — Gateway to the Isles
Known as the “Gateway to the Isles,” Oban is a seaside town filled with ferries, fresh seafood, and some of the best views in Scotland. So of course, the Happy Tartan Girls hopped over to explore, laugh, and — naturally — tuck into a feast by the harbour.
Arrival by the Sea
As the ferry glided into the bay, the girls leaned over the deck railings to soak it all in — colourful harbour houses, bobbing fishing boats, and the famous McCaig’s Tower perched proudly above the town.
Bonnie gave a dramatic wave of her flag and grinned.
“Let’s dazzle ‘em with a harbour entrance!”
Skye was already bouncing with excitement.
“Race you to the lighthouse view!” she called, as her boots hit the pier first.
The adventure had officially begun.
Exploring Oban
They wandered along the waterfront listening to the cries of the seagulls and watching the ferries sail out toward the islands. Blaire paused, studying the skyline thoughtfully.
“Right — here’s the plan…” she said, pointing up toward McCaig’s Tower.
“Let’s climb up there for the view!”
The climb was worth every step.
From the top, Oban stretched out below like a painting — blue seas, rolling hills, and boats dancing across the bay. Iona quietly opened her sketchbook and began capturing the shapes and colours, adding tiny fishing boats and drifting clouds.
Meanwhile, Blane stood peacefully at the wall, just taking it all in.
“I’ve got it,” she smiled.
And she did — the moment, the calm, the view.
A Seafood Feast
Oban is famous for its fresh seafood, so the girls couldn’t resist. They tucked into oysters, mussels, and fish straight from the boats. There were giggles, shell-cracking, and happy tartan-coloured crumbs everywhere.
For dessert? Scottish tablet ice cream from a harbour stall.
Bonnie took one lick and pretended to faint in delight — because of course she did.
Photos by the Harbour
Before leaving, they lined up along the pier for photos — tartans fluttering softly in the sea breeze. They twirled, posed, laughed, and even persuaded a friendly fisherman to snap their group shot.
Alba gazed quietly across the water.
“This one’s got a story,” she said softly.
“A story of sea journeys, beginnings… and homecomings.”
The girls knew exactly what she meant.
Where Next?
With Oban’s sparkle tucked safely into their hearts (and their camera rolls), the Happy Tartan Girls were ready for the next leg of their adventure.
Would it be another island hop — Mull? Iona? Coll?
Or a return to the Highlands to chase more tartan-coloured magic?
Wherever they go next, Oban will always be remembered as the place of laughter, seafood, and sea-sparkled days. ✨
